Human Tissue

It is almost unbelievable - funeral homes and other businesses trying to profit by selling body parts to companies that harvest the tissue, supposedly for medical research and use in patients. Because the tissue was diseased and not properly screened, a number of people into whom the tissue was subsequently implanted claim to have been diagnosed with hepatitis and/or HIV.

Unfortunately, there is very little government regulation of the human body tissue industry; as a result, sleazy companies have purchased diseased or otherwise tainted body tissue and then either resold it to hospitals and other facilities or used the tissue to manufacture products used in medical procedures such as skin grafts, bone grafts, and organ transplants. The situation became so bad that in 2006 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered one company, Biomedical Tissue Services, Ltd., to halt the distribution of tissue products because of alleged medical and ethical violations.

The attorneys at Pogust Braslow & Millrood are fighting back against these shameful and criminal practices. We represent the families of persons who died as well as patients who were unknowingly infected by the tainted tissue. These cases are outrageous, and we are fighting not only to assure that our clients are compensated, but also to try to stop these illegal and unethical practices.

If you or a loved one has been infected or injured as the result of receiving tainted human tissue, or a loved one has died as the result of this conduct, you should immediately call the attorneys at Pogust Braslow & Millrood, where Protecting Consumers Is Our Primary Goal. We will evaluate your case, explain all of your options, and work to assure that the appropriate parties are held responsible for the injuries or deaths resulting from the improper harvesting of human body tissue.
